Marriages City of Lawrence

     The marriage returns for 1904 filed at City Clerk Corcoran's office show that matrimony is decreasing in Lawrence.   

The number of marriages in this city last year was 789 which was 63 less than 1902 and 98 less than 1902.  One hundred and thirty three entered the matrimonial state for the second time.

The youngest couple married during the year was Alphonse Lupieu a coal handler, 18 years old and Roschua Latulippe, a spinner, 16 years .  Two other brides were only 16 years old.

Ten persons were married for their third time and only one gentleman, Andrew J. Shattuck of Franklin was married for the fourth time.  He is 64 years old and took for his bride, Mrs. Hannah Tyning, aged 54 years.  It was the lady's third experience in matrimony.

The oldest man married was Benjamin F.H. Knowlton aged 73 years of Derry, NH who took for his third bride, Mary V. Ross aged 30 years who had been married once before.

Martin White, aged 52, took a third wife in Annie Mathews, aged 48. She had been married once before. 

James Cranshaw, aged 62, became the third husband of Annie Tomlinson, aged 64.

Moses Wells, aged 47, secured his third wife in Alice Towne, aged 38, who had never been married before. 

Ida Billington, aged, 45 had never been married until she became the third bride led to the alter by James E. Powell, aged 46, of Boston.

Elzare Pelletier, aged 47, contracted his third marriage with Louise Rivard, aged 40 who had been married on one previous occasion. 

Edmund Butter worth, aged 62, of North Andover married Marthy Richardson, age 64 of Prospect Street. Both had been married before.

Thomas Pearson's third wife was Hannah Tomlinson who had been married once before.

Eli Oldfield and Bertha Callan were only 34 years old each but it was Oldfield's third venture and Mrs. Oldfield's second.

Hiram Brocklebank took Annie E. Davis for his third bride but it was her first venture in matrimony.

Walter W. Williamson was only 24 years old and Minoille A. Derby was 27 but it was the second marriage for each.  They came from Manchester NH to have the knot tied.  

Walter S. Hallbrook aged 64 of Haverhill, and Rose Hill aged 51 of Haverhill, came to Lawrence and were married.

The first couple married in Lawrence in 1904 was James A. Nash, aged 67 of Springfield, and Margaret A. Choate, aged, 54.  It was Mr. Nash's second venture.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.E. Wolcott.

Rev. M. Milanese performed more marriages than any other clergyman.
